Smile for a change

A smile is the smallest action with the biggest reach. It changes leadership, customer service, teamwork, and every relationship it touches.

I have performed for royalty, for Fortune 500 boards, and for audiences who did not share a single word of my language. In every one of those rooms, the same tool worked before any other: a genuine smile.

I wrote Smile for a Change because I kept seeing the same truth from the stage. A smile is a signal that lands faster than language, and it tells the other person the one thing every interaction depends on: you are safe with me.

Watch it work in business. The manager who greets the morning with warmth gets honesty by the afternoon. The service agent who smiles on the phone, and yes, callers hear it, turns a complaint into a conversation. None of this is soft. It shows up in retention numbers and customer reviews.

The practice I recommend costs nothing: give the first smile. Do not wait to receive one, and do not save it for people who have earned it. Offer it first, to the barista, the security guard, the colleague you have been avoiding, and watch how often the mood around you changes.

Change rarely announces itself with fireworks. Most of the time it starts with the smallest action a person can make, repeated until it becomes who you are.
